ANNOYING PESTS

ANNOYING PESTS

“Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in blossom.” Song of Solomon 2:15

Allergy season is upon us. For those who have allergies, it is a miserable season. Those annoying little pests, allergens, can make you sick. The tree pollen is very bad this year. The reports say the level is high and the grass and weeds are coming on strong as well. And the bad thing is, you can’t escape it! If you suffer with allergies, you suffer!

In thinking of these annoying pests, allergens, I thought of the scripture about the “little foxes that spoil the vineyard.” They come in and wreak havoc before you know it. The thing about allergens is that you can’t see them and it’s not until you are miserable that you realize they were there all along, hidden from view. This started me thinking about the sins in our lives, those annoying little foxes, that are there, hidden from view. At least sometimes we don’t realize that certain things are really sin because we get comfortable with them. But sins, just like allergens, make you miserable, even though you might not have been aware of them all along. All of a sudden, they catch up with you and then it is a full-blown attack, and you are sick. We need to be aware of those sins in our lives that we can’t see or aren’t noticeable to others, but God knows they are there.

We need to take precautions just as we do against allergens. We need to clean out our houses (hearts and minds), shut our windows (to sin), and take our medicine (the Word of God). Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sins that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked for us.” We need to be free of those things that entangle our lives, the sins that ultimately make us spiritually sick.

What is the remedy for annoying allergies? Try to stay away from those allergens that give you trouble. What is the remedy for those annoying sins? Feed on God’s Word, communicate with Him in prayer, confess those sins and ask for forgiveness and stay away from all appearance of evil (1Thess. 5:22). “If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:7-9).

Get rid of the little foxes today before they ruin your vineyard!
